Barb had a lot of fun working with the Fancy Pants Nautical collection.

The Fancy Pants Nautical Collection is a collection that works perfectly for all your summer photos, whether it be photos of the beach, summer picnics, or¬† travel.¬† It’s full of fun, bright colours with a great nautical twist.

For her first layout, Barb added a little bit of texture using a little bit of texture effect, which can be found in the Scrapbook Nerd store. In order to achieve a wavy, watering effect, she spread some texture effect onto two corners of the page, and then took a comb and ran it through creating a wavy pattern. Fun!

For her next layout, Barb decided to add texture to her title. She tells us, “I really love the wood grain paper in this line and had to use it for my background.
I didn’t need to us a lot of embellishments on this page since silhouetted a photo of a sign and used that as my main embellishment.

For added texture, I cut a template on my silhouette and used it, along with texture effect, to make my title. Once it was dry, I added some colour to it.

Her third project shows off more of the Fancy Pants Nautical Collection, and the fun picnic and food icons in this line. Keeping with the texture theme, she used a Tim Holtz template along with the Texture Effect, once again.
“I added texture on this layout using Texture Effect. I used the Tim Holtz Rays Layering Stencil. Once the texture paste was dry I stippled on yellow ink. I prefer adding my colour afterwards as it gives the texture paste a lot more dimension with the white bits showing through.”

For her final project, Barb shows off just how fun, and colourful this collection is. It’s the perfect collection for all those beach layouts!

Using one of the photo frames that are part of the collection, she made a cute shaker box as an embellishment for her page.  You can see the video tutorial on how she made the shaker box HERE.

Rolled Paper Birthday Card

Sarah Moore for Scrapbook Nerd.com

We all know that 6×6 paper pads are perfect for card making, but¬†the size of the pattern makes them perfect to create custom made embellishments for any project. I used a 6×6 pad to embellish a Tim Holtz Stamp by rolling paper and adding it to the stamped image.

I made this card using a fabulous Tim Holtz stamp, a Faber-Castell Big Brush¬†Pen¬†and a 6×6 paper pad! You can find all of these items in the Scrapbook Nerd Store.

  • I started out by choosing my papers that I wanted to use.
  • Stamp the image twice, onto two separate pieces of paper.
  • Cut the frosting part of the cupcake off the second image. Colour with a medium of your choice. (I used a Faber Castel Big Brush Pen – that can be found at Scrapbook Nerd – ¬†that I scribbled onto my craft mat then picked up with a water pen for a fun watercolor look.)

  • ¬†I cut them into 1×6 inch strips, then each strip was cut in half so I had 1×3 pieces. This gave me the thickness I was after once the pieces were rolled.

  • Before rolling,¬†curl the end of the strips¬†with your fingers back and forth to soften the starting edge.
  • Roll tightly.
  • Once they’re rolled, I¬† suggest using hot glue to seal them, because I found the other adhesive just wasn’t strong enough!
  • Once they’re all rolled, just use the glue gun again to secure them onto the stamped cupcake.
  • ¬†Add the Frosting piece.
  • Finish off by adding another rolled piece for the candle.

Now you have an adorable 3D stamped image to add to your card.

Here’s a couple close ups:

Michelle Gallant

Michelle had a lot of fun working with the Fancy Pants As You Wish Collection. This collection has a rich, vibrant colour palate paired with fun and eclectic patterns. As with the other Fancy Pants collections, this one comes with so many embellishment choices, making it such a versatile collection to use.

Let’s Go on an Adventure

On this layout, Michelle brilliantly uses the patterned chevron paper by just cutting it apart and piecing it together on the dark wood-grain paper. The result is very eye-catching!

Michelle tells us “I was very excited to work with the Fancy Pants As you Wish collection this month but when I saw the pattern paper with the map on it, my first thoughts were what am I ever going to do with this!

I decided to be bold and use it as my background. It was very scary for me as I usually use a neutral or white background. I really like how it turned out! So go ahead and try something different on your LO’s next time you scrap. What’s the worse that could happen?”

Texture tutorial by Michelle Gallant for scrapbook nerd.com

If you feel like you’ve seen these next two projects before, you have. Michelle shared a tutorial on each of these two layouts earlier. Since they were part of her Fancy Pants As You Wish project reveal, and they were both so gorgeous, we just had to include them here again.

Michelle’s use of the Heidi Swapp triangle stencil works perfectly with the chevron paper, creating a great geometric feel to her finished project. Don’t you just love the way the rich colours of this line pop off the dark background?

On her last project, Michelle used the Heidi Swapp stencils to create her own background. Then she layered some of the gorgeous photo frames and journaling cards, that come with this collection, behind her photo.

The Wonderful World of 6×6 Paper Pads

paper6x6

Are you a paper addict? If you’re like me, you have a lot of older paper collections that you still have in your stash. You know you’ll still use them, but then you see all the new collections coming out that you’re dying to get your creative hands on. The guilt of having all that paper sitting, waiting to be used starts playing on your mind as you longingly look over all the new collections. You feel that you really shouldn’t be spending your crafting budget on more paper. You’re torn.

The solution may be an easy one. 6×6 paper pads.

Making Handmade Embellishments

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials @ scraobooknerd.com

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Fleur Smith, Scrapbook Nerd Design Team For this week’s tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make some handmade embellishments that you can use on your next project. It doesn’t take much to make your own embellishments and it’s even easier with the 6×6 paper pads. For all these embellishments I used the Dear Lizzy Daydreamer 6×6 pad and 2 sizes of scallop punches.

6x6pp1

Layered Flowers

First up flowers. There are a few different ways to make some fun flower embellishments and I will show you two ways. For the first flower I used 2 different size scallop punches.

6x61

First punch the 2 different sizes from different patterned paper, using two different sizes of the scalloped punch.

6x6pp2

Using scissors, cut in from each scallop slightly (not all the way into the middle).

6x6pp3

Once all your cuts are made, layer the two layers together .

6x6pp4

Add a fun embellishment in the middle – I used a button and badge from the same collection.

6x61

Folded Flowers

6x62

For the second flower punch four scalloped circles from the same patterned paper, using one size of the scalloped circle punch.

6x6pp6

Fold the circles in half.

6x6pp7

Layer the half circles on top of each other as shown gluing as you go.

6x6pp8

Finish it off with a fun embellishment in the middle.

6x6pp9

6x62

Party Dresses

My third project is a fun dress made from one large scalloped punch.

6x63

Punch from patterned paper.

6x6pp11

Cut as shown (top has 4 scallops bottom has 8-9 scallops.

6x6pp12

Layer the leftover pieces on the bottom to make it more dimensional.
Add a fun embellishment around the waist – I used the bows from Crate Paper

6x63

Ice Cream Cone

My last project is perfect for summer layouts. An Ice cream cone.

6x64

Cut three scallop cirlces from different patterned paper and a triangle shape from a patterned paper (this will be the cone)

6x6pp14

Fold the scallop circles in half and layer them on top of each other to make the scoops then add them to the top of the triangle cone.

6x6pp15

YUM!

If you would like to give these a try, we would love to see your finished projects. Share them with us on or forums and in our gallery.
