Design it Yourself Christmas

Today we have a spotlight on the new Simple Stories collection

Simple Stories DIY Christmas collection

These projects came together quickly with all of the fun tags, banners, stickers, chipboard & other embellishments that are available in the Design It Yourself Christmas collection from Simples Stories. I have a great start on my Christmas gifts and I still have a bunch left for more. Crafty Holiday tags at

I’m a list maker and it’s nice to have a pretty notebook for all my shopping lists, to do items and any other stuff I need to keep track of this holiday season.

These cards are a mixture of the other new holiday collection from Simple Stories called Cozy Christmas. I think these two collection go together So well. I’m looking forward to using them for documenting my December next month.

For my last two projects, I used the Frameables to make these two holiday decor pieces. One of these will be in my sister-in-laws stocking and I had planned on giving the other to our neighbour but…..I like it so much it might have to stay with me 😉

Easy faux chalkboard DIY

Step by Step paper crafting projects

Faux Chalkboard DIY with Joy
(Supplies are listed at the bottom of this post)

Hello friends,
Today I am showing how I crate a Faux chalkboard look with a few simple supplies. The application is the same for each of my projects, super simple! 😉

Pigment inks like this one take longer to dry on project compared to dye based inks, some pigment inks even require you to heat set them. I will be using this extended drying time to my advantage for this technique.

1. Use a sponge applicator to apply ink to the edges of your project. Apply lightly or add more depending on how heavily you want the “chalk” look on your final project. I opted for a light hand while creating this 4×6 card for my Project Us album.Faux Chalkboard DIY @scrapbooknerd.com2. Using stamps, stencils add images or shapes to your project with the same white pigment ink.  Use a variety of sizes and shapes if you like. I stuck with 2 sizes of snowflake stamps. You can add ink all over your project if you want at this point. It will add to the chalkboard look.
*Try using a scrap piece of paper first to test this before applying ink to your project.

3. With a clean dry paper towel, buff off some of the ink while it’s still wet. You can always add more ink if you are not happy with the effect so far.

4. Heat set the pigment ink with your heat tool if you feel it necessary. Try doing a finger smudge test to if the ink needs to be heat set.

5. Now finish decorating your project and that’s it.Faux Chalkboard DIY Faux Chalkboard DIY

The chalkboard effect looks great on all sorts of papers but shows up best on black.
This gift card holder was so quick to make. (10 minutes) I used a star background stamp, two circle embellishments, red bakers twine from the DIY Christmas collection from Simple Stories.

The tag for this wine bottle was also simple to make. I used a Tim Holtz layering stencil, a strip of pattern papers and a few more embellishments from the same collection.

I hope you get out your inks, stamps and stencils to give this a try. Such a great look with minimal effort. Let your supplies do the work 🙂

Happy crafting!
