Nerd Girl Fleur’s August Projects

I loved this month’s Crate Paper Poolside collection it was so much fun to play with.

First up I made a few fuaxdori notebooks by laminating a 8.5×11 piece of paper and punching holes for the elastic.  You can see more details of the inside books and decorating on the forum.

I also used this collection to decorate a couple of weeks in my MAMBI planner.

I was so in love with the gold sequin words and shapes and of course the flamingo so I made some frames I got from Target using my favorite floral paper from the collection too.  I love these they will look great in my craft room.

Last but not least I also made a layout.  This collection is perfect for your summer photos.

And on Tuesday I showed you how to make some fun school supplies really cute with this collection.

Nerd Girl Fleur’s August Tutorial – Back to School Cool

Step by Step paper crafting projects

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

I love back to school, not for the early mornings, making lunches and constant rushing around lol but for all the amazing back to school supplies that come out.  I usually buy more for me than I do for the kids 🙂

This year I thought it would be fun to make some Back to School supplies even cuter with my stash of scrapbook stuff.  Most of these are super easy but so cute! You will need some notebooks, paper clips and pencils.

First take some plain old pencils, paint them with acrylic paint and add stickers, washi tape, write sayings, decorate how ever you want.  These were so easy and I love how they turned out.

Second I made some cute paper clips just by simply adding the Crate Paper Poolside buttons to the top of some gold paper clips.  Again super easy and super cute.

AugTutStep5 AugTutStep6 AugTutStep7 AugTutStep8

Last but not least I decorated some notebooks using the Crate Paper Poolside collection and gluing some patterned paper to the front and adding some fun embellishments.  Just make sure you use a really strong glue for this project as it will be handled a lot.

Do you decorate your supplies?  Please share with us if you do.

Simple Stories So Rad

Creative Team @

Hello, everyone. Barb here.
I have had a fun time this month playing with the Simple Stories So Rad collection. It’s hard to find good boy collections in the paper crafting industry, but Simple Stories hit it out of the park with this one. It’s a great mix of colours and graphics that is great for boys of all ages.

Project 1 – Anytime Anywhere

As soon as I saw all the gaming icons in this collection, I knew it would be perfect for my guys.! I got a big kick out of the old-school icons too.

Project 2 – Text Me!

Along with all the old-school icons, are current images. I had this photo of my son on his phone while we were on vacation.  Funny thing I that he didn’t even bother to look up when I was taking pictures. Isn’t that quote fantastic??

Project 3 – You Must Be Dreaming

I had this photo of my son. He had fallen asleep in the car, on our way home from purchasing a new set of headphones. I had to take a picture of it. It’s been sitting on my phone for a while, so when I saw the headphone images in this collection, I knew just what I was going too do with it!

After finishing these three layouts, I decided to make some cards with all the left overs.  The first card was seen in the Tutorial posted earlier this week – making a shaker using the WRM Fuse Tool.

I love how quick a card can come together by using the journaling cards!

Thanks for visiting the blog today.  I hope you’ve been inspired by this collection, as I was.

Shaker Card

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials @

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Hello, all you Scrapbook Nerds! It’s time for another tutorial and this week I’m going to show you how I created this shaker birthday card using my WRM Fuse Tool.

photo 15What you need:

  • A card base
  • WRM Fuse Tool
  • clear pocket page
  • patterned papers and matching embellishments. You will need some smaller embellishments to put inside your shaker. For this tutorial, I’ve used the Simple Stories So Rad collection.

photo 10

1. For my shaker, I fussy cut a computer from the 4×6 cut-apart sheet from the So Rad collection. Once I cut it out, I cut the computer screen out as this will become my shaker.

photo 12

2. Once my computer screen was cut, I laid the computer onto my page protector, lining it up with the sides that are already fused.  Then I traced the outside of the screen with a marker.

3. Using the Fuse Tool and the included ruler, fuse on the inside edge of one of your marker lines. Be sure to still leave one open to fill your pocket. If measured properly, you fused lines will end up hidden by the die cut.

photo 9

4. Fill your pocket and fuse the remaining edge.

5. Cut on off the excess plastic.

photo 5

6. Adhere behind the computer die cut so that the fused sides are hidden.

Assemble your card:

1. I used a kraft card base. On top of the base, I used the newsprint paper from the So Rad collection.

photo 14

2. Next, I cut down the striped journaling card and placed on the bottom of the card.

3.  Add the computer shaker.

4. Add the sentiment as desired.

There you have it – a fun birthday shaker that any boy would love to get.

Sunday card share #16

Sunday Card Share

Hey there crafty people,

I was in the mood for some sparkle this week, I chose the easy way with American Crafts POW paper…love that stuff. The hearts and the card base are all sparkly. I finally picked up some ombre inks from Hero Arts and tried out the Pink to Red here. I’m looking forward to working with those ink more.

This weeks card has a hidden pocket that is holding the gift card behind the white panel, and the person who receives this card uses the pull strip to find the gift card.
Sunday card share pull strip birthday card This is the back side of the card front, I used scor-tape around the edge and
just above where I die cut the pull tab to create a spot for the gift card to sit.

Hope you can join in on the card share this month. Use the link below to show off your cards 🙂
See you next Sunday, thanks for stoping in.

Kim’s August DT Reveal

Creative Team @
Good morning Nerds!

I can’t believe we are already into August!! This DT term has flown by!! This is a bittersweet post for me as I’ve come to the end of my DT term here at Scrapbook Nerds…It’s been a pleasure playing with y’all!

I’ve also had a blast playing with all of the yummy goodness Barb and Joy have provided!! Especially this line…although I had a really hard time cutting up these purdey Lucky Starz papers from Bella Blvd…I LOVE them and I tend to hoard rather than cut up papers I love! LOL!! But…it was to scrap a pic of my most favourite toy…MY BIKE!! (Although I did totally cheat and used the cover sheet from my collection pack! LOL!!) I also played with some YUMMY dies from Kaisercraft…eeeeeks!!  I also pulled in some papers from Echo Parks Here and Now collection. I love mixing manufacturers!!

“Crazy Horse has been a very faithful friend to me for that last 15 years and while I’ve got a new ride now (Kemosabi) I still have a very soft spot in my heart for this old girl! Whenever life got a little much to bear this girl was always there for me. With a good kick she would roar to life and braaaaaaaaap my worries away. I wasn’t usually the fastest on the track (obviously from all of the mud on my number plate) but I definitely had the most fun out there! I always felt like a rawkstar throwing a leg over my pretty girl. What I love even more is that now Caitlin is racing Crazy Horse and KILLING IT on a 15 year old bike! Not only is this bike still one of the prettiest ones on the track, she’s still got it!! WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

I LOVE the colours in this Lucky Starz line from Bella Blvd!! SOOOOO FUN!!
Here’s a little throwback photo from the summer of 1998…Caitlin and her “Gamma” (she couldn’t pronounce her “r’s”…) playing in Gamma’s backyard. They have had a very special bond right from day one and the two of them still hang out and play together. Hard to believe this chubby cheeked little bean is heading off to university in a couple of weeks…sigh…

Here’s a close up…

I tried something a little different and even daring (for me) with this project. I have a little thing with doilies (although I’m happy to report that after my term with SN DT I am down from 5000 to just under 4000 doilies left…WAAAHHHHOOOOOOOO!!) I have really enjoyed playing with the gelatos and wondered if I could colour my doilies with them…YES YOU CAN!! Love how well they compliment the fun and happy colours of the Lucky Starz line from Bella Blvd!

Here is a super quick layout of Cate in her natural habitat. I swear she is part fish!!

Super quick and super easy!

I LOVE this line from Bella Blvd! Lucky Starz worked perfectly with my new MFT Abstract cover up die! Couldn’t ask for a quicker or easier card!!

Well that’s it for me creatively speaking but I would like to thank Joy and Barb for inviting me to be a part of their design team. I’ve had a blast and loved challenging myself to go outside my comfort zone to create. You two ladies have created a very special place for us scrappers to come and share not only our creative stuff but also our lives. You guys RAWK!! MWAH!!!

Thanks for letting me share! Happy scrapping Nerds!

A Gelatos Tutorials…Just as delicious as the name suggests!!

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials @

Step by Step paper crafting tutorials

Have you ever tried watercolouring? Me neither but I decided to go out with a bang and push myself out of my comfort zone! LOL!! Luckily theses yummy Gelatos from Faber Castill make this technique super easy!!

First choose your gelato colours…You will also need cardstock, paintbrush, embossing gun and a spray bottle.

Some people prep their pages with gesso but I decided to keep it super simple to get started so I just coloured up some white cardstock…

They are super creamy and colour like a dream! Next I just added some spritzes of water with my spray bottle and then blended with my paintbrush

I then used my embossing gun to speed up the drying process…and started to play!!

It doesn’t get much easier than Nerds!!

Be sure to check these out! You won’t regret it!! I’m off to play with my crayons some more…I’m getting braver and braver!! Join me in my adventure!! WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Sunday card share #15

Sunday Card Share
Welcome back to another SCS,

I love to make and send thank you cards, admittedly I don’t send them out often enough though. I must work on that 😉 I used distress inks and watercolour paper for everything except the card base for this weeks card. (ink colours – Old paper, Salty Ocean, & Spiced Marmalade)
I did some stencil work and water flicking to add a bit of interest to the cups & saucer, then added a die cut sentiment from the script celebrate die set from Tim Holtz & Sizzix.

Thank you card - Sunday Card Share @
