Scrapbook Nerd Girl Digest | Weekly Review

Hi there!

Even after the Christmas festivities, the Nerdy Girls have been working on sharing a few projects to give you a bit of inspiration.   Let’s just see what they have been up to:

Mari shared a set of of beautiful Christmas cards.  She has used Crate Paper’s FALALA collection to create two simple but elegant designs.   In addition, she also added the cute puppy card, created using MFT Happy Pawlidays stamp set and die.  She used a bit of Distress Inks to frame the puppy image.   So in love with her cards!

Gisele put her personal stamp on the two cards she shared this week with us.   She also played with Crate Paper’s FALALA collection, and some Nuvo drops to create these colorful and beautiful cards.

Finally, Nathalie’s Tuesday Tutorial was focused on showing us how a bit of mixed media can help us use those busy patterned papers as a base for our projects.  She combined Photoplay’s Winter Meadow with Crate Paper’s Snow and Cocoa collections to  create this page.  You can see her video tutorial in the previous blog post.

Well that is all for this week.  We hope these serve as inspiration/starting points for projects of your own.  Remember to check the Scrapbook Nerd for all the materials used in the projects.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support during the past year, and to wish you only the best for the New Year.

Scrapbook Nerd Creative Team Weekly Digest

Hello Nerds!!!

It is finally starting to feel like Fall around here!

This week our Scrapbook Nerd design team has been busy working on bringing you some inspiration.  Let’s see what they have been up to:

Barb has been working with 1Canoe2’s Creekside collection to document one of her travel adventures.   This page shows the versatility of the collection.  Don’t you just love the  soft fussy cut flowers in her background.   Just beautiful, Barb!!!

Gisele is a master of mixing colors and patterns seamlessly together.  This Fall card features the new Simple Stories’s Happy Harvest collection.  That fussy cut fox (from one of the collection’s cut apart card paper) is the star of this layout.  Perfect for the season!!!

This page by Milena is colorful, and the best way to document her 16th year old daughter.   She is our resident sketch maker, and she is using one of her sketches for this page.

All those phrases, and papers  from the Vicki Boutin collection from American Crafts along with some sequin from Studio Katia bring color and fun to this page.

Finally, Nathalie showed us how easily cut files and mixed media can be combined to create a unique background.   She put her own spin on Halloween, and used Distress Oxides and Pink Paislee’s Spellcast collection  to document  her daughter’s costume from a few years ago.  You can check how she created this page on this week’s Nerd Academy Post.

I hope you all are inspired by all this amazing projects.   Remember to check the Scrapbook Nerd store to find all the materials used in these projects, or if you need a especial order brought in.

Have a great week!!!

A New Take on Halloween || Combining cut files and mix media

Hello Everyone!!!

Can you believe we are about to celebrate HALLOWEEN!!  I know, time has flown this year!.  With this is mind, I started to dig through my picture files to check all my Halloween memories (as my teens do not dress up anymore!) to create a layout that brings Halloween with a twist.

For this project, I wanted to combine my love for cut files and mixed media in one page, so I thought about using mixed media to back the cut file.    As you can see, cut outs can easily be brought to life with just a few simple splashes of color, and not only patterned paper.

The pumpkin cut file comes from a free file from Paper Issues, and my choice of media this time was Distress Oxides in Black Soot and Orange Marmalade.  I simply used the cut out to lightly draw the shape on the cardstock, and then tried to add the mixed media inside the image lines.

Once the background dried, the cut out was stitched on top of the mixed media, and the background for the page was then formed.

Next a few pieces of ephemera, and embellishments from Pink Paislee’s Spellcast collection complete the look of this page.  The following video can give you a more in depth look at how a bit of mixed media can be used to back a cut out in your layouts:

I hope you enjoyed the video, and that it inspires you to experiment with different ways to back cut outs other than paper.   There are so many new  mixed media products and paper lines available at the Scrapbook Nerd store, take a few minutes to check the  store out,

I am always a comment away if you have questions on how this came together.

See you all soon!

Nathalie’s March Friday Recap

Hello there friends!

Can you believe that Spring is just around the corner?  But it seems winter just does not want to leave us yet!   I think we are ready for a new season, so all my good thoughts and vibes were channeled to this month’s projects, and my biggest source of inspiration was color.

Here is a quick look at what i created this month:

  •  “4”   The happy, colorful and super cheery “Joy Parade” collection from Fancy Pants Designs was perfect to document my little’s 4th birthday picture.   The  large confetti shaker element as a background just enhances the celebration feeling of this page.

  •  “HELLO FUN”   The layout was created as a companion to the Silhouette Savvy Series entry abut combining cut files.   The layout uses the free “Ho Ho Holidays”  cut file -designed by the Cut Shoppe for Scrapbook Nerd- and the new Paige Evans’s “Oh My Heart” collection to document my niece’s idea of fun, jumping on the bed.

  • “YOU”    I love florals, and the ones in the “Oh My Heart” collection from Pink Paislee are just so beautiful.   A bit of hand stitching to the fussy cut images was perfect to enhance the images details, and bring texture to this page.   A simple mixed media background complements the picture of my teenage daughter.

  •  “LIVE FOR THE MOMENT”   One of the new Pinkfresh Studio releases, “Dream On” was a dream to work with.  The patterns in the papers, and the beautiful color combination on the papers along with the Cut Shoppe’s cut  file added plenty of interest to this page all about my teenage son.

  • “FOREVER”   I just had to create this page,  since we have a lot of winter/snow pictures this year, I wanted to document one of my favorites in a non-wintery way.  So i picked this beautiful pink background from the “Oh My Heart” collection, added  this soft cut out -created from the Winter Lace cut file from the Silhouette Store-, and a bit of hand stitching to highlight the picture of my husband and I on one of our walks.

I hope this set of projects have served as inspiration to pull some color into your work, trust me is an excellent way to beat the winter blahs!

Remember to check the Scrapbook Nerd store to check what the ladies are bringing to the shelves, there are so many new products available.

I am always a comment away, if you need assistance with anything related to this projects or the blog tutorials.

Take care!

Hello there!

I hope you all have enjoyed a LOVE filled week.   This month i was lucky to have different collections to play with, but  i think that overall the theme for  this month’s reveal was love and simplicity.   So let me give you a quick run-through all the projects:

  •  XOXO

The page is all about the special bond my two youngest children have for each other.   The project was created using Simple Stories’s “Love and Adore ” collection, a bit of hand stitching, and watercolor.

  • LOVE 16 –  Tutorial on creating Paper Rosettes.

This month’s tutorial was all about showing you a way to create paper rosettes that could be used in your projects.   My choice of project is a layout about my husband and I on the day of our 16th wedding anniversary.  To highlight the Love theme in this project, I chose to work with Simple Storie’s “Love and Adore” collection,  and Crate Paper’s “Heart Day” collection.

  • LOVE YOUR SELFIE

I am fascinated with taking selfies whenever i can get my hands on my nephew (trust me, he is hard to catch).   For this project I chose Pinkfresh Studio’s “Life Noted” and “The Mix #1” collections.   A hand stitched large title became the focus of this page.

  • DARLING

You can say, I love large bold floral designs.  I love to fussy cut the images to create layouts with them.  In this case, the large floral paper from American Crafts’s “Hazelwood” collection was perfect to document a picture of my sister and my niece.

  • SNOW CUTE

My last project of this month highlights the beautiful “Winter Wonderland” collection from Simple Stories.  A large snowflake image (created with a cut file from The Cut Shoppe.   The design of the page is simple, but with lots of details around.

I hope you can draw inspiration from this group of layouts for your personal projects.   Remember to stop by the Scrapbook Nerd store to check what the ladies are bringing in.

If you have any questions on how any of the pages came together, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Till next time!

Nathalie’s Friday Recap

Hello there!

First of all let me wish you all a Happy New Year!   May 2017 be filled with love, happiness, health, and lots of crafty time!

For this month’s projects, I chose to work with different techniques, media, and collections.   All the pretty patterned papers, and cut files are what inspired me to  create backgrounds where i can preserve my memories.   Here is a recap of all this month’s projects:

  • DREAM GIRL  –   This project combines some mixed media, a cut file ( The Cut Shoppe’s  Happy Clouds cut file), and the beautiful Crate Paper’s Cute Girl collection to document a sweet moment between my niece and our baby when they were both just toddlers.

  • ‘TIS THE SEASON TO SPARKLE  –  Silhouette Savvy Series tutorial blog post –  For this month’s entry to  the Silhouette Savvy series, I created a small tutorial showing  how to use the Silhouette  Cameo to create a stand-out title.    The title, along with Pinkfresh Studio’s “Oh Joy” collection were perfect to document  my favorite Christmas picture.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU.   Life is about little moments, and i was able to capture one of them while trying to get a picture of the 4 cousins.   For this projects, I chose to create a watercolor background, and use Simple Stories’ ‘Whatever” collection to   create a large title using the new Happy 2017  cut file, available for free at Scrapbook Nerd’s  store.

  • AMAZING & TIMELESS.   This project changed direction as it was being created. but the end result is just perfect.  Once again, I chose a cut file form The Cut Shoppe and watercolors to bring the background to live.  A few fussy cut flowers, and  embelishments from Pink Paislee’s Take me Away and Moonstruck collections.

I hope this projects inspire you to get creative with memory documenting.   Remember to always put a little piece of you in each project you create.

If you have any questions on how any of these came together, please do not hesitate to contact  me.

Thanks for visiting, today!

Nathalie’s Friday Recap

Hello there!

This year has surely flown by!  I still cannot believe it is December, already!

Well, for the last month of this year, I was just so inspired by the beautiful women in my life.  So I created pages to celebrate them, and of course I had to create a page about my baby!  Here is a recap of this month’s creations:

  •   #59 –  a page to celebrate my mother’s 59th birthday using the beautiful Gather collection by Maggie Holmes for Crate paper.  The lovely teal roses match the playful shaker element of the background.

  •  Happy Times – This month’s tutorial is all about creating watercolor backgrounds for your layouts.  In this case, the soft background, and Pink Paislee’s Take Me Away collection are perfect to document a reunion of family and friends.

  • Lovely Smile –  The negative parts of a cut-out serve as inspiration to this colorful layout about one of my younger sisters.  Once again Paige Taylor Evans’ Take Me Away collection is featured in this very colorful layout

  • Wild Heart –  My love for hand stitching, cut files, and pretty paper was combined to create this playful layout of my crazy niece flying above her bed.

  •  Happy Birthday “6” –   We love our baby, so I chose Pink Paislee’s Birthday Bash to recreate his 6th birthday cake, and celebration.

Though this month’s projects were girly, I hope you can draw inspiration to create colorful pages to document all your memories.

Before I go, let me wish you and your family a Happy Holiday, and a blessed New Year!
Thank you for  your support.  It is truly appreciate it!

I look forward to seeing you all in the next year!

Hello Nerds!

I can believe Christmas is just around the corner, and I am still working on documenting my Fall pictures.  I find that every time i see a new paper collection, it inspires me to create.  This month was the perfect example of being inspired by pretty paper.  Here is an overview of my projects:

  1. HEART EYES  – The new Maggie Holmes collection, “Gather” along with some mixed media were ideal to document a fun memory of my niece on Thanksgiving

heart-eyes-final

2.   BE GRATEFUL BE THANKFUL BE BLESSED –  The page was created using Fancy Pants Design’s “Golden Days” collection and a large stitched title.  It highlights my sister and her kids with the beautiful fall colors in the background

3.  FAMILY -You Are Completely Adorable –    This was this month’s Silhouette Savvy entry.  It is all about layering digital die cuts to create dimension in a project.

4.  LISTEN!   My favourite November layout is all about my son.  The design is simple,  but striking due to the papers in the new Bella Blvd.  Alex collection.

Simple Stories The Reset Girl Collection with Barb

Creative Team projects at scrapbooknerd.com

Barb @ scrapbooknerd.com

We are at the end of another week. Can you believe it? Where does the time go?
I’m back today to share my projects for this week. I’ve been having a lot of fun with the Simple Stories The Reset Girl Collection. If you haven’t had a chance to check out this collection, you really must. It is so fun. The collection is feminine, but not so much so that it made it difficult for this mother of only boys to be able to use. I’m usually out of my comfort zone when working with girlie products, but this one was easy!

Project One – Award of Excellence
If you feel like you’ve seen this before, you have. It was used in my tutorial, earlier this week, on how to make embellishment clusters. You can find the tutorial HERE.

awardofexcellence_edited-1

The crafting/planner side of this collection lended themselves perfectly to this layout of my Teacher sister who received an award for her accomplishments in the classroom.

Project Two – The Nerd Girls

Once I saw the Nerd glasses in this collection, I knew that I had to do a layout of Joy and I (The Nerd Girls). I have found the embellishments in this collection so easy to work with and so versatile for so many different themes.

thenerdgirls_edited-1

Project Three – Hello Girl

I fell in love with the retro ladies in this collection the moment I saw them. My original plan was to do a layout about my mother, but changed my mind when I saw how perfectly they worked with photos from 2016. They are adorable!

hellogirl_edited-1

I have had so much fun working with this collection and am thrilled that I still have so much of it left over that I will be able to make several more projects with it.

Thanks for checking out the blog today. If you haven’t seen this collection, get over to the store and check it out. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do!
