Hidden Journaling on a Busy Layout

general

Hello Everyone!

I hope that all of you who live in Canada enjoyed the long Victoria Day weekend!

This month, I received the Pinkfresh Studio’s “Live More” collection. Like many of their collections, this one has a few papers that make it easy to complete a layout, with the background including most of what you need, including a title. I wanted to use this page, because it was perfect with the sentiments on the page that I wanted to write about in my journalling.

However, by the time I added some layers behind my photo, and a few select embellishments, the page seemed full to me. And since the story I wanted to tell with this layout was definitely more important than the photo, I had to get creative.

Sometimes I include hidden journalling by putting it on a tag and inserting the tag behind the photo. But I had already adhered the photo down and didn’t know where a tag would fit well behind it anyway.

So, I decided that I would build a pocket on the back of the page that a large tag could slip into. I made sure to cut the scrap white cardstock at least an inch larger than the width of the tag, and used redline tape to secure it down on the bottom and sides.

Then I measured the front of the tag and created my journalling on my computer that was slightly less wide and long than the tag. I printed the journalling out on Avery® Easy Peel® Clear Glossy Laser/Inkjet Shipping Labels (a trick I learned from Barb). Then I had room to adhere the journalling strip as well as a chipboard sticker and a puffy sticker to the tag.

Then I stuck the tag into the pocket, and added a few triangle puffy stickers to point out where the journalling is.

I was pleased with the way that this turned out – although much of the page is filled, I was able to preserve a little bit of white space by putting the journalling on the back.

Thanks for looking!
