To start your glass etching project you will need: a glass container or plate, vinyl, a digital die cutter or metal die to create a template, glass etching paste, rubber gloves, scraper tool and a hook tool. I purchased an inexpensive glass container from my local dollar store.

Start by cutting out the image you wish to etch from your choice of vinyl. The colour does not matter for this project. The weed the unwanted parts from the cut image.

Weeding: is the action of removing the unwanted cuts/parts of your image. For this project I wanted the background, not the actual snow flakes.

The next step is not a necessity but I do recommend it. Cut and apply transfer paper to your image in aid in the placement your image.

Remember to use your scrapper tool to burnish the transfer paper for good adhesion. Now remove the backing paper and adhere your image to your glass container.

I recommend burnishing your image again once you have placed it on your glass container which will help your image be crisp after the etching process.

Next apply etching cream according to the instructions on the bottle. Please USE RUBBER GLOVES (the cream is high corrosive and will burn your skin) and a spatula or popsicle stick to apply the cream.
The cream I used said to spread the cream in both directions over the image and let it sit for 5 minutes before removing the excess cream. You can put the cream back into the bottle for use on your next project.

I used washi tape to protect the surface above an below the vinyl .

Rinse and remove any reaming etching cream with warm running water. Remove your vinyl template and dry off your container.
