Wildly fun cards with Karen
Getting The Most From A Card Kit: Part 1.This Simple Stories “Into The Wild” card kit is supposed to make 8 cards… well I turned that into 15 cards!I am sharing 9 cards in this part. Stay tuned for Part 2 for the rest. Here’s the contents of the kit- it even includes 8 folded card bases! Here’s everything all punched-out. There is no cutting required. For my first 8 cards I followed the instructions to create the backgrounds. The 9th (Toucan) has some papers from Simple Stories “Safe Travels” 6x8 pad. Of course, the cards weren’t complete until I...
Ink Blended Cards with Karen
birthday card Card Making cardmaking distress oxide inks distress oxides taylored expressions
Karen @cardsbykaren created these 3 different cards using stencils, stamps and ink blending. The first card features Taylored Expressions’ “Gifted” stencil with the “Gifted Background” stamp and an assortment of colourful Distress Inks. The sentiment was stamped and die cut from Waffle Flower’s “Happy Birthday” combo set. The second card uses TE’s square “Masking Stencils” to create the background. The ice-cream and sentiment were stamped from the “Birthday Scoops” set by Concord & 9th. The third card combines the “Gifted Background” stamp, ink-blending with the square masking stencil, and a shaker element. Simon Hurley’s Lunar Paste was applied with...
Working with Lunar Pastes by Karen
The Simon Hurley create. Lunar Paste is a creamy and colorful paste with a metallic shine. In this miniseries, I will be sharing different ways you can use the product. To get started I took a pallet knife and spread the paste onto a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I used the Later Gator and Clear Skies paste colours. I set this piece aside to dry (it doesn’t take long) and will come back to it later.Next, I stamped the Taylored Expressions “Gifted Background” stamp onto some heavy weight black cardstock using VersaMark ink. I covered the stamped image in white...
Accenting your pattern papers with Foil or Gilding Flakes
Theresa is sharing some tips to add accents to your pattern paper. The pattern paper the design team has been using for cards provides an excellent opportunity to add some detail. There took the opportunity to try a new product to her, Nuvo Radiant Gold Gilding Flakes, to create some blingy accents to the Craft Consortium Ink Drops – Candy 6x6 paper. Using the Nuvo Medium Glue Pen, Theresa traced around the tan outlines. The fun, messy part is placing the flakes on the glued areas and burnishing it with your finger to ensure it adheres to the paper. Highly recommend...
Getting More Out Of Your Embossing Folders with Karen @cardsbykaren
Have you ever tried using ink on an embossing folder? The results may surprise and delight you! Here, Karen used Distress Oxide inks and the 3D- Knitted folder by Sizzix to create pieces for these cards. Step 1: Using a blending tool (such as the Blending Brushes from Taylored Expressions), transfer ink onto the inside of the embossing folder. You can experiment with either side of the folder, each side will be slightly different. Karen blended 3 colours of ink in a striped pattern. Step 2: Place a piece of cardstock/paper in the folder, close the folder, and run it...
Ink blending : 2 ways with Karen @cardsbykaren
Card Making ink blending valentine's card Valentine's Day
Create beautiful backgrounds (and even a cut-out shape) with Distress Oxide Inks, blending brushes and a stencil. For the first piece: Karen applied three different shades of ink onto a sheet of Neenah Classic Crest cardstock creating an ombré look. For the second piece: Karen die cut a heart shape and used low tack tape to adhere it to the cardstock. She placed a stencil from Vicki Boutin on top and blended on the ink, keeping the lightest colour in the centre and the darker inks towards the edges. Next, images from Lawn Fawn’s “Charge Me Up” stamp set were stamped,...
Leveling Up when using a card kit
Using a Card Kit is a great place to start when you need some inspiration. Karen used Photoplay’s Tulla and Norbert’s Christmas Party Card Kit to make these winter themed designs. Here’s what Karen had to say about the process:Card 1: I started by following the instructions included in the card kit. Then, I switched out the background paper and sentiment sticker, removed one snowman sticker and added some snowflake sequins. Card 2: I used the snowflake background paper that was intended for card 1, added some scrap strips of paper and a hand-cut snowdrift. Next, I ran this piece...
