Creating a Dimensional Title

Welcome back to the Scrapbook Nerd Blog and another Tutorial Tuesday. This week I have a quick tutorial for you on how to create a dimensional title using your silhouette.

On my layout, I wanted to create some depth in my title. What I was going for was a shadowbox effect. To do so, I wanted to just have an outline of my letters.

First, I went into my silhouette and chose a font that was fairly basic and blocky.

Once I made it the size I wanted, I then went to the offset window.  I clicked on offset and then clicked on square corners.  Then on the “distance” slider I moved the slider to make a narrow border around my letters.

Once I had the outline the size I wanted, I duplicated the title 8 times. (in the end I only ended up using 7 of the layers.)

Then I cut.

Using just the letter outline, I glued one on top of the next.  I used 7 layers, but  for more depth you could easily add more.

I found it easiest, and more precise, to keep the bottom layer stuck to the silhouette matt and glue the other layers on top from there.  That kept everything from shifting around and allowed me to easily slide a layer while the glue was still wet.

For the bottom layer, I cut one of the titles on red cardstock.

The red letters were adhered to my layout first, and then the layers of the outlined letters were adhered on top.

I love the finished effect!
